Sagrada Familia

Anne just returned from Spain. Going through photos a fond memory of Spain relives. Where ever I go, I always visit churches. Among churches my favorite of all is the unfinished Sagrada Familia. Its untangled shapes and formations, various colored light from stain glass, even the noise from construction and humans make the sanctuary unique. The usual type tends to focus on divinity but this one is so organic and so natural that I feel here is where the divine meets humanity. The only regret is each time I went there the tower was closed, and there was nothing I can do.

The facades, in addition to being exquisite, are also passionate, where Gaudi and Subirachs assert their strong persona and views. The passion facade is sequenced in S shape, starting from lower left point for Last Supper, walking up to go through Jesus' Crucification, and ending on the upper right corner of Holy Burial. S shape is presumably for honoring Sbirachs. He honored Gaudi by inserting a blocky image of Gaudi on the lower left corner (of the second photo) next to the Roman soldiers.

Indeed it's an architecture miracle. As of when it would finish, I wish I could see it in my life time. But if not, it's OK. The unfinished church itself has a metaphoric significance to me. Namely, our search for meaning of life is perhaps always presented as an unfinished process, and we fulfill ourselves through experiencing, touching, and being touched by invisible forces of divinity and humanity combined.
